It’s enjoyable, something I’d happily watch again, and I feel comfortable suggesting it to others. Looking back, this film seemed more significant than it initially appeared. It at least gave the impression of introducing the idea of aliens secretly living among us into mainstream storytelling, even if that wasn't entirely its doing. Perhaps it simply brought the concept greater visibility; regardless, it excelled at guiding viewers across the boundary between our everyday perception and a blended society. Or maybe I’m just drawn to the notion of extraterrestrials existing on Earth. I don't believe the approach they used was ideal – the humor is frequently as irritating as it is amusing, and Tommy Lee Jones is almost as comical as Will Smith (which is quite a statement from me), though both deserve recognition for their roles. Nevertheless, they were perfectly suited to this film, and the rest of the cast performed admirably. Vincent D'Onofrio’s portrayal of "Not Edgar" was likely the most amusing part of the movie, and I don’t believe that was intentional. The trope of deliberately misleading a newcomer by withholding crucial details feels tired and overused, but it contributes to the film’s humor. I do like this movie, and I appreciate its unrealized potential.
