It’s been a decade since they attempted to revive this series following that previous film that didn't quite live up to expectations, and it seems some consideration was given to the narrative before revisiting the concept of an agency responsible for overseeing extraterrestrial visitors on Earth. "J" (Will Smith) has certainly evolved beyond his days with the canine companion, but he’s now struggling to cope with a fresh challenge that requires him to collaborate with his partner "K" (Tommy Lee Jones), and even journey through time to team up with a younger version of himself – portrayed by Josh Brolin in a remarkably similar fashion. Emma Thompson takes on the role of the new chief, "O," overseeing everything. The storyline feels familiar—they're tasked with preventing humanity’s destruction—but this installment incorporates more humor, largely thanks to Thompson's performance, and less of Smith's dominant lecturing. There are moments that evoke “Dr. Who,” and the action sequences feel repetitive as they chase after the not-particularly-threatening "Boris the Animal" (Jermaine Clement) toward a foreseeable, albeit vibrant, conclusion. Did Andy Warhol have any involvement in the alien storyline? It’s an improvement over the second film, but it doesn't reach the enjoyment level of the original. Perhaps it would be best to leave things as they are.
