The Meg 2: The Trench delivered precisely what I was hoping to see in a film centered around massive sharks—a silly, entertaining adventure with exaggerated action sequences, polished imagery, and a good dose of mayhem. What really impressed me was the photography; the camera work and underwater scenes were particularly well-executed. The visual effects also held up their end, contributing to an overall exciting viewing experience. The film’s rhythm felt right on track. The initial portion flowed nicely into the middle section, where the stakes began to rise, building anticipation for the final act. The performances were acceptable, perhaps a bit theatrical at times, but they suited the movie's style. While the screenplay certainly had its problems—I mean, who would swim normally that far down, 25,000 feet below the surface?—those shortcomings didn’t detract from my enjoyment unless you are someone who is looking to find fault with everything. This isn't a film intended to be taken seriously or realistically; it’s purely a popcorn movie. If we held every film accountable for being believable, most would fall short dramatically. The Meg 2 provides entertainment for what it is: a worthwhile viewing experience that allows you to get lost in its absurd world for a while.
