I recently saw the 2024 version for the very first time, and I have to say that the earlier movie from 2004 is considerably better than this new musical adaptation. The original film’s richness and its dedication to the plot, without added distractions, really make it stand out. Although the older film doesn't offer much in terms of developing all the characters, and occasionally feels a little hurried when compared to the musical, it does an excellent job of building relationships between them and letting them grow organically and in a way that keeps you interested. The actors in the original movie manage to be funny while also having great rapport with each other. The film finishes well, showing a smooth shift from disorder to a peaceful community—something that appears to be absent in the musical version. Even though there are a few small issues, the original’s well-rounded characters and good casting choices combine to create an easy and pleasant experience for viewers.
