_Mean Girls_ shouldn't be as good as it turns out to be, and yet it really is something special. Those who have read a number of my reviews might expect me not to enjoy this kind of film, because it seems so distant from what I generally go for. It’s easy to imagine that I wouldn’t like _Mean Girls_. But the truth is, I absolutely adore it. And frankly, I'm at a loss to explain why. If you were to look at any individual element of _Mean Girls_, it’s something I typically dislike. Each trope, structure, convention, and stylistic choice are things I have criticized in other reviews, but somehow I always find myself wanting to watch it again. It’s been years since I first saw it—I'd guess sometime around the late 2000s—and almost every year I've watched it repeatedly. It's baffling, but that’s just how it is. _Final rating:★★★★½ - An unexpectedly powerful draw. It stays with you._
