The production values are high and the performances are solid; it’s an agreeable experience overall. *McFarland, USA* represents another entry in Disney's seemingly endless series of sports dramas based on actual events, but they clearly possess a knack for crafting films that feel both sincere and uplifting within the genre, even if familiar tropes appear. This one follows suit, and it is quite good. Kevin Costner portrays Jim White with intelligence, while Carlos Pratts stands out among the younger cast members. The actors playing the runners whom White mentors are all well-chosen; I was able to become invested in their story, attributable both to the script and to the performers themselves. The film provides a very pleasant and agreeable 128 minutes, and it’s refreshing to see a sports movie centered on cross-country running instead of the more typical basketball or football narratives. The cinematography and musical score are commendable. I recommend seeing this if you have the chance.
