If what you want is to see attractive actors stumbling through dangerous situations while trying to avoid Aiden Gillen’s villainous character, then this movie might entertain you. However, if you're hoping for something that resembles the books about "Thomas," "Newt," and their efforts to resist "WIKD," you should look elsewhere because it bears no resemblance. Aiden Gillen doesn’t convey any real menace; he seems more like a pleasant figure. While Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster, along with Giancarlo Esposito who is clearly overacting, appear to be enjoying their roles in this action-packed escape sequence, the writing feels disjointed and the plot lacks coherence. The special effects are decent, and the fight sequences are well-executed, but it essentially feels like a "Percy Jackson" adaptation—something you can watch without much investment and that doesn't measure up to the quality of the initial film.
