May December proves to be a very good satire that occasionally delves into quite dark territory. Portman’s portrayal of Elizabeth is that of an actress who has been hired to study for her next part, which centers on the heavily fictionalized story of Julianne Moore's character. Both Moore and Portman deliver strong performances, managing to portray characters who feel genuine even amidst outlandish humor and circumstances. Portman, especially through her determination to create a realistic performance as Gracie, imitates her mannerisms, eliciting amusement from viewers. The film’s comedy largely derives from its darker elements; the most amusing part, without giving anything away, involves Gracie's relationship with her husband, which develops throughout the story and ultimately reaches a fulfilling resolution. It is noteworthy that this blend of comedy and drama features some of the strongest character developments compared to other films showcased at Cannes. Ultimately, May December succeeds in every way, holding its own against other movies. The film is satirical, boasts excellent acting, and offers entertainment value.
