The performer known as Maxine Minx, who has experienced some unusual things in her life, is striving for broader recognition and appears to be progressing toward that goal when director Elizabeth Bender selects her for a starring role in the second installment of a previously successful movie. While this is happening, a serial killer is active in Los Angeles, and law enforcement suspects Maxine might have something to do with it. She isn't responsible for these violent crimes, but could she possibly become the intended victim? A strange encounter with private investigator Labat implies that visiting a certain location might reveal the truth, although she has her own plans. With assistance from her agent/manager/bodyguard Teddy and utilizing a car crusher, she arranges a dangerous confrontation with an individual wearing black gloves who resides behind green doors. The film occasionally displays a defiant attitude, and Goth delivers a satisfactory performance, but Bacon’s acting feels excessively exaggerated. Debicki seems detached from her character, and the remaining cast members contribute little to a narrative that is too flimsy to fill one hundred minutes before reaching an anticlimactic and hurried ending. Be warned: I have a feeling there may be another film in development, as if we need more average horror movies.
