It’s a fresh face with an extraordinary ability, but its arrival felt unfortunate given the current landscape of science fiction cinema. To stand out amongst so many recent and upcoming films, changes were clearly necessary—even if it meant sacrificing some of the original ideas behind the story. The plot feels familiar, echoing other movies with similar themes; to my eyes, it resembled a condensed version of Superman geared toward children. What worked best was its straightforward approach and brisk tempo, which helped keep me engaged from start to finish. However, that sense of déjà vu ultimately diminished my enjoyment. The characters were serviceable but lacked depth—though this is understandable given the film’s intention to appeal to a younger audience, as unnecessary complexity would have been counterproductive. The narrative centers on a high school student returning to his hometown, where he learns about his father through conversations with locals. Driven by curiosity, he seeks answers, and then an incident leaves him waking up with newfound powers. Unsure how to control them, he forms a bond with a strange being, and together they confront those pursuing them. At first, I assumed it would be similar to 'Real Steel,' but that impression quickly faded. The director, known for ‘Sorority Row,’ doesn’t seem to have made any missteps. Those less experienced in watching films are more likely to appreciate this one. The visuals are adequate, with standard graphics. Being rated PG13, it's clearly aimed at a younger demographic, and from their point of view, it's probably fine. But I would advise adults to avoid it, or adopt the mindset of a child in order to find it entertaining. _5/10_
