This movie felt like a slog! John Goodman’s performance is almost enough to redeem *Matinee*, and he does a decent job, but not really. I wasn’t invested in the people from Key West or what was happening with them; particularly disappointing were the roles played by Kellie Martin, Omri Katz, and James Villemaire. The narrative wanders off in several different paths, yet I didn't find myself engaged with any of it except for those moments featuring Woolsey, played by Goodman. The 'movie within a movie', *’Mant!’*, on the other hand, was enjoyable—it genuinely made me laugh, which stood out against the actual attempts at humor (or lack thereof). I understand what they were trying to do, but I just didn't like most of it, really.
