I'm struggling to understand all the enthusiasm surrounding this film; it simply didn't meet what I had hoped for. The positive buzz led me to watch it, but ultimately, I wasn't convinced. Initially, the movie seemed promising with its engaging storyline, impressive visuals, and skillful camerawork. It managed to keep me interested for roughly an hour, after which point things began to feel contrived, disorganized, and improbable. The main character was difficult to grasp; I found myself unsure whether I should be on his side or concerned about the trouble he faced. He engaged in some truly unpleasant and unethical behavior. While morally ambiguous characters aren't unusual, typically a narrative attempts to explain their choices with a larger purpose. However, here, his sole drive appeared to be an obsessive, self-centered pursuit of winning a “ping pong” competition. It was hard to connect with the story when that seemed so trivial. Despite its flaws, there were some positives. Timothée Chalamet demonstrated considerable acting ability, and I was pleasantly surprised by Kevin O’Leary's performance. Still, it’s difficult to consider this anything more than an average film.
