The storyline itself isn't particularly clever, but that’s really the only shortcoming I noticed. The directing and cinematography are exceptional, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of contemporary Scandinavian crime fiction. There’s a strong influence from writers like Stieg Larsson, and shows such as Bron/Broen—which later served as inspiration for American series like "True Detective"—is very noticeable here. The acting is wonderful; everyone delivers terrific performances. Arévalo and Gutiérrez, who are typically known for comedic roles, are both fantastic, as are Barros and Reina. The writing is sharp, and I appreciated the unresolved elements that the narrative leaves hanging. Ultimately, the film subtly explores Spain’s history under dictatorship and during its early democratic period—a common technique in Spanish cinema. This approach allows viewers to become intrigued and seek out additional details on their own, while also protecting the movie from potential backlash from those who haven't fully confronted that difficult chapter of the nation’s past.
