Marrowbone has been unfairly presented as a horror film when it’s really another drama; there are thriller aspects to be sure, but the scares come more from a sense of unease than outright terror. My main issue was feeling misled by the promotional material, though putting that aside, I found Marrowbone to be quite good. The performances were all strong, even if George MacKay’s depiction of suffering felt somewhat unconvincing. The production design is striking, creating an atmosphere that's both lovely and unsettling, and the cinematography contributes some truly memorable moments. The narrative itself proved engaging. It would have been better titled “The Secret of Marrowbone,” which is what it was called in Spanish. I wasn’t happy with how things concluded, and there are still plot points that left me confused, but overall, I enjoyed being immersed in the story.
