I feel like I was misled by the promotional material; I anticipated something akin to a gangster film. Instead, this centers on the fluctuating dynamic between tattoo artist “Rule” (Chase Stokes) and his friend “Shaw” (Sydney Taylor). She previously had a relationship with his brother “Remy,” but it’s revealed that he was involved in a car accident with Rule, which contributes to Rule's reluctance toward commitment. Simultaneously, Shaw is obligated to date the affluent “Gabe” (Michael Bradway) to appease her mother, though she ultimately desires someone less privileged. Will they manage to resolve their issues and overcome his hesitation about being officially designated as his boyfriend? There are a few tastefully shot intimate scenes, and it offers a nod to the skill of some tattoo artists, but largely, it’s a flimsy romantic drama that failed to hold my attention. The film is visually appealing, and there's music intended to enhance the mood, yet it comes across as an average television movie—my apologies. Alexander Ludwig appears briefly in the role of his older brother “Rome,” and he seems stiff; Ella Balinska attempts to add some energy as her close friend “Ayden,” but Stokes and Taylor don’t do enough with the unremarkable script or narrative to make it compelling. It's perplexing how this received a wide theatrical release in the UK.
