What elevates films of this type is frequently the performance of those in smaller roles; Keith David stands out significantly above the main actor. The portrayal of Steven feels lifeless, like a stiff figure going through the motions of performing martial arts. However, the antagonists are intentionally exaggerated and their performances are wonderfully theatrical. While the storyline is simple, the action sequences are intense, the writing isn't great, and there’s plenty of scantily clad women on display—essentially, it’s an enjoyable action film in exactly the way it should be. It represents a kind of action movie that has become rare...a type that would have been ideally suited for a direct-to-video release originally. The film isn't good, but it is diverting, and honestly, that’s really all one could hope for.
