It’s likely that Larry Clark's assistant once misplaced a script while preparing to shoot this film, forcing him to improvise. ‘Bully (2001)’ was a strong movie from him, but his work since hasn’t been close to that quality. ‘Wassup Rockers (2005)’ had some problems with the performances, yet it remained watchable because there was at least a semblance of plot; this one doesn't have that and seems to simply drift from scene to scene involving teenagers disrobing. I don’t think Larry Clark has ever made a movie without teenage nudity, but I honestly began to wonder if he created this film just so he could focus on nude teens with frequent close-ups of their genitals – both male and female. It's hard to believe it was because he thought he had a worthwhile story to tell. One character states, ‘if people f’d more there would be no war. Less killing, less rape, you know what I mean?’ This character shares some traits with Larry Clark – an artist who enjoys painting depictions of male genitals, similar to Clark's own work filming them – so it seems like a way for him to rationalize his interest in teenagers’ sex lives and possibly a (failed) effort to add some substance to a film that lacks it. A sequel is supposedly being developed for release next year; I can’t imagine how they plan to make money from it, but perhaps Clark doesn't care and just wants to continue filming nude teenagers. There was a period when he was considered a talented director with some questionable tendencies, but now the perception is shifting towards him being a perverted director who happens to have some talent. He needs to completely change direction if he hopes to reverse that trend; maybe make a film about adults or, if he insists on focusing on teenagers, let them keep their clothes on and concentrate on developing a good story with actors who can actually perform.
