The film *Marching Powder*, true to form, delivers what you’d anticipate from a collaboration between Danny Dyer and Nick Love. My reaction to it is somewhat mixed, however. A significant portion of the humor feels uninspired and contrived, although I did find myself laughing at a few moments—particularly those referencing Dagenham. The use of breaking the fourth wall is problematic; occasionally it seems appropriate, but more often than not it feels awkward and uncomfortable. Conversely, there's one unexpectedly poignant scene featuring Kenny Boy on the phone that genuinely resonated with me – something I wouldn’t have predicted from this type of movie. Regarding the performances, Dyer is generally decent in the main role, though certainly not flawless; he essentially provides what you would expect. Stephanie Leonidas performs admirably, and Calum MacNab, initially a concern as Kenny, ultimately proves to be one of the stronger elements of this 2025 production. Overall, I’m inclined to categorize this as merely ‘average,’ rather than ‘good.’ It was a close decision, certainly, but I feel that the drawbacks are more substantial than the positives. The plot is the ultimate reason for my assessment; it concludes in much the same way it begins, with little discernible advancement.
