I've consistently enjoyed Jane Austen's books, having revisited many of them repeatedly. I am generally accepting of screenwriters making minor adjustments to the narratives; alterations alone don’t necessarily bother me. Watching this adaptation, though, I didn’t connect with it as strongly as I have with previous versions. It was difficult to pinpoint exactly why, since I felt that some of the acting was above par and the costumes and scenery were perfectly acceptable. It appeared that several alterations lacked any clear purpose. Things unfolded at unexpected moments, dialogue came from different characters than anticipated, and there were even instances where character personalities shifted noticeably for a time. It didn’t prompt me to abandon watching or consider a very low score, but it did leave me puzzled and with the impression that improvements could have been made.
