The movie prioritizes aesthetics above all else, taking that approach to an extreme degree. It’s undeniably beautiful to look at, occasionally even mesmerizing, but ultimately lacks any real purpose. The dialogue is often absurd and hard to endure, and the film moves at a glacial pace, creating a frustrating experience overall. That's not to say it has nothing going for it; the visuals are a strong point, as is the music. And then there’s Nick Cage being…Nick Cage. (DID YOU JUST TEAR MY SHIRT?!) I would only recommend this if you're in a significantly altered state of mind. It seems likely that those involved in creating and funding it were similarly affected, because despite its severe shortcomings in terms of narrative, the production values must have been substantial. If you’re not particularly fond of self-indulgent, slow-moving films with graphic content, I suggest avoiding this one entirely.
