The movie Man on Fire (1987) came across as a standard action film from the eighties that didn’t manage to distinguish itself. Although the initial idea seemed promising, the way it was presented fell short, and I wasn't able to form any kind of bond with the people in the story. The acting felt unnatural, and attempts at showing feeling appeared contrived instead of genuine. The filmmakers used a lot of slow camera movements and still shots, which were common back then, but they didn’t contribute anything useful to the film. Rather than creating suspense or adding layers, these techniques just made it seem old-fashioned and unoriginal. It wasn't terrible, but it was missing the power and emotional impact that could have made it something special. The plot unfolded in a foreseeable way, without any exceptional scenes to lift it above being simply another tale of vengeance. In fact, seeing this version only highlighted how much stronger the 2004 adaptation was, considering its more realistic portrayal and greater depth.
