This is a step up from the initial movie, which was surprising. I mentioned in my previous thoughts on 2019's *'Malibu Rescue'* that watching the show between installments didn’t seem appealing – and I ended up doing just that. It isn't exactly well-made, but it proved to be better than the first film. In my opinion, *'Malibu Rescue: The Next Wave'* surpasses both, so the entire series is progressing—albeit gradually. It’s still not something I found enjoyable, though. There are clear problems with it, yet I don't really dislike it either. The performers are agreeable, even if they aren’t particularly skilled. They have good chemistry together. Alkoya Brunson stands out, but the whole group interacts well. I was glad to see them include that Jeffy (Michael Mourra) character again; he’s used for some fairly amusing moments in the films—maybe he should be part of the television show as well? It's clearly aimed at a particular audience and, I suppose, succeeds within those boundaries. However, they could certainly improve it to make it more entertaining for a wider range of viewers. I am curious to see if there will be another season; I imagine that’s likely.
