It didn’t quite reach the level of darkness or complexity that I was hoping for, but it's still interesting to experience a fresh version of the story of *'Sleeping Beauty'*. Angelina Jolie is believable as Maleficent and delivers a solid performance. Elle Fanning (Aurora), Sharlto Copley (Stefan) and Sam Riley (Diaval) do alright with their parts, though none of them are able to live up to Jolie’s work – which isn’t surprising, really. The visual effects felt somewhat underwhelming; they aren't poorly done, I just thought they could have been more impressive. The music also didn't stick with me particularly well. However, I did appreciate the way the story developed, largely because of Jolie’s performance. I am curious to see what the next chapter in the *'Maleficent'* series will bring.
