It was an enjoyable film that I’d happily watch again and suggest to others. I don’t typically care for Angelina Jolie's performances ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider"), but she really delivered here, and I felt empathy for her character during certain moments, so I can’t deny that she’s a capable actress. Elle Fanning ("The Great") is excellent, largely portraying an irritatingly cheerful young woman while conscious, with a fantastic supporting cast and visually impressive (and occasionally silly) computer-generated animals. Disney clearly invested heavily to ensure the film looked polished. They also put considerable work into reworking the narrative. Having revisited "Sleeping Beauty" and other adaptations (though I didn’t return to the original text), I appreciate the path they chose. The initial story was rather thin and lacking substance, and this version does something I really like—it transforms a villain into a relatable opponent instead of just an evil being. I'm not entirely convinced by the inclusion or purpose of the three fairies, but it’s understandable to some degree. And I am pleased with how they resolved the curse. The creation of this unique world significantly enhances the movie and gives it something special.
