The players don't appear to be doing very well! Cleveland Indians owner Rachel Phelps assembles what is essentially the worst baseball team imaginable, with the intention of finishing dead last so she can move the franchise to Florida. When these unusual athletes discover her scheme, they unite around a common purpose, leading to some genuinely funny moments. It's certainly silly, but Major League has an undeniable appeal and benefits from a cast that seems to be having a good time, making for a truly entertaining and humorous film. It’s surprisingly accessible even if you aren’t familiar with or fond of baseball; the humor comes from the team’s camaraderie and the audience's passionate support, which the movie consistently provides. The group includes eccentric characters like someone who practices voodoo and a former prisoner – and those are considered the most level-headed members! A talented ensemble including Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen, Rene Russo, and Wesley Snipes all seem to be in on the joke, and hopefully you will be too. It was a hit with audiences when it first came out, which unfortunately led to two really disappointing sequels that should be avoided entirely. Just enjoy this one instead, particularly if you're looking for something to lift your spirits. Wild Thing! You make my heart sing, indeed. 7/10
