The film follows a familiar path and doesn’t offer many surprises, yet I believe it's an agreeable experience that fulfills its limited ambitions. It delivers the narrative it intends to present and permits the central figures to develop in some ways. I suspect those who criticized this movie probably favor action-packed thrillers and could spend weeks watching them without noticing any evolution in the protagonists’ personalities. Made in Italy resembles a romantic comedy, but stripped of its humor and with the romance playing a secondary role. In a traditional rom-com, one of the characters would need to perform some significant act of devotion or selflessness at the conclusion; that doesn't happen here because the love story is understated. Instead, it becomes apparent that either the father or son will have to make a considerable sacrifice before the film ends. I wouldn’t rush to watch Made in Italy again, but I also don’t feel like I would want to repeat the same social gathering with the same people discussing the same things, and I can appreciate it initially without feeling that my time was wasted. What did I start this review by saying? Oh right, it's a pleasant enough watch. Just let yourself enjoy it.
