Jimmy Stewart had a knack for playing the naive, sentimental character, yet here, even with an actual tear or two, he seems to have difficulty keeping this somewhat saccharine story from falling apart. He plays a lawyer who unexpectedly marries Carole Lombard, referred to as "Jane," and they become parents. At the same time, his career hits a rough patch, leaving them short on money. This naturally creates strain in their marriage, and the movie follows the highs and lows of their situation. Charles Coburn delivers a solid performance as the “Judge,” and there's a fairly suspenseful scene near the conclusion involving Ward Bond and Eddie Quillan coming to the rescue. It’s easy to overlook that many films back then were essentially churned out; perhaps we place too high a demand for unique plots or exceptional acting because of it. This film is acceptable, but not particularly memorable.
