While on the move, “Max” (Mel Gibson) stumbles upon “Bartertown,” a harsh place governed by either "Aunty Entity" (Tina Turner) or "Master" (Angelo Rossitto), depending on whether electricity is required! Those in charge, including "Aunty Entity" and her sly associate "The Collector" (Frank Thring), devise a scheme to utilize “Max’s” skills to resolve the power conflict. This initially works, but when his remaining principles lead him to oppose his new employer, he's sent to a labor camp where he encounters some children who view him as a divine being able to rescue them. Despite his attempts to correct their misunderstanding, disagreements among the kids bring him and them back for a final showdown with "Aunty Entity.” Tina Turner was experiencing a significant period of musical resurgence during filming; if she had appeared more prominently, perhaps the story’s threat could have been better realized. Instead, once it descends into a scenario resembling a wild preschool, the narrative becomes foreseeable and rather uninteresting. “We Don't Need Another Hero” serves as an appropriate conclusion, but much of what precedes it is fairly forgettable and might signal the end for this worn-out anti-hero.
