It seems many viewers reacted negatively to this film, which suggests some may have gone in without understanding what it was supposed to be. The movie isn't flawless and has issues, but giving it a very low rating like one or two stars feels unjust. I genuinely found the movie enjoyable. It’s straightforward science fiction; if you're looking for pure science devoid of imagination, then another film might suit you better. Given that Luc Besson wrote and directed it, and promotional material included phrases like “merciless warrior evolved beyond human logic,” I received pretty much what I anticipated. The movie initially presents itself as a fairly standard revenge story incorporating science fiction elements through the character of Lucy. However, it gradually develops into something more complex. Recognizing that she cannot survive in her transformed state, Lucy embarks on a mission to preserve the knowledge she’s gained while she still can, all while evading the drug dealers responsible for her predicament. Lucy is excellent; her powers and their progression are impressive. I appreciate unexpected moments in movies and books where someone like Lucy demonstrates their abilities to ordinary people—especially when that demonstration involves taking out some bad guys. This movie has plenty of those instances. It’s a thrilling sequence of action as Lucy displays her expanding capabilities. Predictably, the film also contains scientific inaccuracies and plot inconsistencies, but I didn't let that bother me; I was there for the entertainment and it delivered. Scarlett Johansson performs well in the role of Lucy. The other actors are generally acceptable, though the Asian drug boss could have been better developed; he seemed more like a dimwitted thug than a criminal mastermind. The ending felt somewhat underwhelming compared to the rest of the film. I was disappointed that the final confrontation largely occurred without Lucy’s direct involvement. Those extended scenes where she wandered through time and space felt like unnecessary padding. The actual conclusion, with the “I am everywhere” line, felt overused and familiar. Also, if she truly was everywhere, why the rush to create that elaborate memory device? Despite those minor issues, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
