I’m having mixed feelings about this film. It occasionally feels like a less impressive version of Tarantino’s work—which makes sense, since Roger Avary wrote and directed it; he collaborated with Tarantino on Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, earning an Academy Award for his contribution—but there were also some darkly humorous scenes and Crispin Glover was excellent as a deranged French assassin. I'm just not sure why Nina Dobrev’s character was portrayed as French either, because it doesn’t seem to serve any purpose in the story beyond maybe giving Avary an opportunity to include some French music. Luke Bracey was acceptable, and I appreciated Clé Bennett’s brief appearance. It wasn't awful, but it also didn’t quite succeed on the whole. I'm rating it **2.75/5**.
