Kelvin Harrison Jnr manages to portray a character who seems both exceptionally studious and disturbingly sinister. Naomi Watts and Tim Roth are believable as parents struggling with difficulties concerning their adopted son and the state of their marriage. Octavia Spencer delivers a noteworthy performance, though I didn’t get a sense of things fitting together well overall. The movie touches on topics like racial and gender stereotypes, but these elements don't connect in a way that feels entirely logical. I felt compelled to fill in gaps to understand what was happening at the close – it’s possible this was intentional – which ultimately left me feeling somewhat let down and even annoyed. It’s conceivable there will be another installment called "Luce 2."
