The decisions about how we want to live are ultimately up to us. This movie draws its foundation from a true story, a written account, and a documentary. The central theme resonated strongly, although it feels largely like an intimate portrayal of one couple’s challenges. Their reserved natures contribute to the impression of a documentary blended with cinematic elements. While Ruth Negga's acting was certainly commendable, I suspect her Oscar nomination stemmed from a desire for diversity rather than purely on merit; numerous other outstanding performances by non-white or non-American actors could have been recognized as well. I find myself drawn to dramas like this one—it felt authentic and the runtime exceeding two hours wouldn’t have bothered me. The lead performers deserve significant praise, they truly embodied the film's essence. Their portrayals were worthy of recognition, although perhaps not for the Oscars. I was particularly impressed by Joel Edgerton’s performance; it might be his finest to date, for a variety of reasons. There are many compelling aspects that make this worth seeing. Jeff Nichols, known for 'Take Shelter,' delivered solid writing and direction, especially considering his previous effort didn't quite live up to expectations. It stands out as one of the year’s strongest biographical films, and I suggest people, particularly families, see it. 7/10
