_**Elvis’ initial leading part portraying a burgeoning rock star of the 1950s**_ A delivery person who has musical ability (Presley) is noticed by a publicist (Lizabeth Scott) at a local fair and subsequently joins an itinerant band, where he progressively “overshadows” the lead performer (Wendell Corey). “Loving You” (1957) marked Elvis’ second of 31 films, but it was his first time as the central figure and also the one that solidified what would become known as the ‘Elvis formula.’ Many of his subsequent movies followed this cinematic pattern, with Presley playing characters in various professions, which naturally altered the setting and relationships. For example, in “Wild in the Country” (1961) he is a troubled young man living in the countryside who is on probation, in “Blue Hawaii” (1961) he’s employed as a tour guide, in “Kid Galahad” (1962) he portrays a boxer, in “Viva Las Vegas” (1964) he's a race car driver and in “Roustabout” (1964) he works at a carnival. This film served as the model for all those that followed, proving effective because it’s essentially a recreation of Elvis’ own journey from poverty to wealth; therefore, he felt natural embodying a rising musical star and facing the difficulties that come with such success. Nearly everything functions well, aside from the overly dramatic final section, which didn't quite hold my attention. Also, the girlfriend (Dolores Hart) feels underdeveloped, so her connection with Presley’s character isn’t very engaging. On the bright side, those scenes where he is playfully interacting on a farm with her and giving a horse a sugar cube while singing possess a genuine sweetness and purity that’s enjoyable to witness. Plus, Elvis appears in peak physical condition, looking youthful and fit. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour, 41 minutes, and filming took place at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and the Ivar Theatre.
