I typically avoid thrillers, so any comparisons to similar movies would be unfair from me. I decided to watch this one mainly because Allison Janney was in it; she initially caught my attention with her work on West Wing and later in Mom. This role is definitely a departure for her though. The film followed some expected conventions of the genre—like the villain who seems to anticipate every move until the very end, fight sequences that are unrealistic, flashbacks used when there isn’t enough character development, and plot developments that were predictable. However, it did have a few unexpected moments; fewer people died than I anticipated, and Janney delivered another solid performance, which kept me engaged until the credits rolled. My wife also stuck with it, and she dislikes thrillers even more than I do. So, ultimately, that says something positive about Lou.
