This movie functions as a road trip story that explores the connection between two people. While I didn't find it entirely captivating, it proved to be quite enjoyable thanks to the skillful direction and the well-portrayed characters. My initial thought was of 'Paper Moon', but then it occurred to me that it also had elements reminiscent of 'Last Ride' and 'Natural Born Killers'. It’s clear the film has its own ideas, though I can’t ignore the influence those movies seem to have had on the writer. If you appreciate road films, you might find something worthwhile here, even if you aren't planning to give it a top rating. The story starts with a thirteen-year-old boy who lost his mother setting out on a journey with an unknown person to reach his grandparents located far away. During their travels, the pair face challenges stemming from their differing perspectives, particularly regarding the purpose of the trip. Ultimately, they forge a strong connection that is threatened at one point. The film didn't fully meet what I thought it might be, although I wasn’t really expecting anything specific since I had heard about it some time ago before watching. It made me wonder how much a story can resonate without substantial character development, but this one managed to engage the audience by allowing them to draw their own conclusions. There are unexpected moments and changes in direction, but everything felt rather straightforward. The film's simplicity and its ability to tell a story at a good pace were what intrigued me most, although it’s certainly not groundbreaking or particularly original. Josh Duhamel was excellent; his performance alongside the young actor makes the movie worth watching. Since seeing 'Spotlight', any film featuring priests tends to make me uneasy, and this one followed that pattern. Overall, it's not essential viewing, but also not something you should completely dismiss. 6/10
