Figuring out the target audience for this movie is tricky. It seems to aim to be an adventure centered around two young brothers looking for their grandfather’s treasure on their family island, but underneath that lies a story about older brothers reconnecting after being separated by time and experience. Because it attempts to balance these different kinds of stories, it doesn't really succeed with either one. Children seeking an exciting plot will likely feel the storyline is contrived, as all the clues appear in a rushed and clumsy way whenever they’re needed. If you decide your child should see this, be prepared for them to lose interest fairly quickly—probably within the first quarter of an hour. Similarly, adults hoping for a meaningful family narrative (presumably older viewers) will probably feel it falls into overly sentimental territory, with situations that are too unbelievable to seem genuine. It was pleasant to notice young Benjamin Stockham still getting roles after his television show About A Boy didn’t work out, but I would only suggest watching this as something to put on casually on TBS when you're with a grandparent who has difficulty hearing and dislikes anything even slightly complex.
