It isn’t a terrible movie; there are significantly worse options available, and it works well for family viewing, but it falls short of its earlier counterpart in terms of quality and originality. Following the success of the first film, it was almost inevitable that a sequel would appear, likely intended to generate additional revenue for the studios. As is frequently the case with such follow-ups, this installment doesn't quite reach the standard set by the original. The story centers on Mollie and James, now a married couple expecting their second child—a daughter named Julie, who arrives via cesarean section. The film explores the developing relationship between the two brothers, Julie, and Mikey, portraying the typical conflicts that arise. Simultaneously, we observe the adult couple navigating challenges within their marriage, stemming from James’ difficult interactions with his in-laws and the financial pressures of raising two young children. Like any romantic comedy, a happy resolution is assured, though the journey involves predictable comedic moments and a noticeable reliance on recycled elements from the first film, lacking its initial spark. However, it's not entirely without merit. It’s an agreeable comedy that provides enough entertainment to justify the time spent watching. The disappointment arises primarily when comparing it to the original. Humorous moments are still present, and the movie isn't unpleasant to experience—evidence of this is its occasional appearance on television schedules even thirty years later. There’s no question it offers a pleasant viewing experience for families. The performances from John Travolta and Kirstie Alley remain enjoyable and well-executed, although they don't seem as invested in their roles as they were previously, particularly Alley. Nevertheless, they deliver satisfactory portrayals. Bruce Willis and Roseanne Barr provide voice work for the babies, contributing to a fun and believable dynamic. From a technical perspective, it’s as unremarkable and uninspired as the first film: the cinematography offers nothing new or especially noteworthy, and the sets and costumes are standard. The music is perfectly adequate.
