It’s disappointing to say that this movie feels like it's pushing a particular agenda from the United States government. To begin with, some basic realities: The U.S. has consistently exerted a detrimental impact on Latin America. Consider, for instance, the brutal rule of Augusto Pinochet in Chile, which occurred after a coup supported by the CIA. Regarding Venezuela, those who bothered to examine the data might have noticed that the governments under Chavez and Maduro managed to lower poverty, illiteracy, and homelessness. Naturally, these administrations are portrayed as reprehensible by U.S. authorities because they wouldn’t relinquish their nation's oil reserves to American corporations. Given this context, it's difficult to accept the film at face value. The depiction of the Venezuelan government as evil doesn’t seem believable. What’s more problematic is that the action sequences are awkward, the movie drags on, and frankly, it becomes boring. It’s a shame because I do like Frank Grillo; he's usually good in action movies. Ultimately, an obvious pro-U.S. slant undermines any possibility this film could have been genuinely enjoyable. The lackluster action and excessive length don’t help matters either.
