Jonathan Rhys Meyers delivers a noteworthy performance as Clash singer Joe Strummer, though _London Town_ doesn't place him at the forefront. The movie has some charm, but it fails to convey the harshness of a United Kingdom during the Thatcher years. Rather than fully addressing the compelling issues present at that time, it approaches them and then avoids engaging with them directly. The skinhead presence is noticeable, yet feels distant—not truly integrated into the narrative. High unemployment rates are mentioned, but the main character quickly finds employment within the story’s opening scenes. These shortcomings might be less impactful if not for the fact that the young man serving as our perspective through this punk experience proves to be rather unpleasant. _Final rating:★★½ - There was a lot here I liked, it just didn't quite gel._
