This is easily among the most sophisticated and well-developed Marvel films released so far. The initial portion of the film proved to be incredibly enjoyable and exciting. Seeing Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart together as characters they’ve portrayed for 17 years was truly entertaining. The writing here permits a deeper emotional exploration of their personalities, pushing them beyond what we've seen before. It’s genuinely a drama first and foremost; it’s refreshing to finally categorize a Marvel superhero film so directly. The visual effects, action sequences, and moments of violence are surprisingly intense. You can sense the considerable power each character possesses, and crucially, the difficulties that accompany such strength. This adds more depth to their individual stories. However, the movie begins to shed some of its initial charm around the midpoint, and what follows feels familiar—like something you’d anticipate from a standard X-Men installment. It leans heavily into action and science fiction elements. The antagonists are as engaging as they could be, I guess; while they don't receive significant development, they serve to advance the core narrative. I won't elaborate further for fear of revealing too much of the story. Ultimately, I just wish certain choices had been made differently.
