While I don’t consider myself a huge admirer of Daniel Craig, this film showcases one of his more appealing portrayals as the character “Joe.” While imprisoned, he becomes involved in assisting brothers "Jimmy" (Channing Tatum) and "Clyde" (Adam Driver) with devising and putting into action an ambitious theft during the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race. Initially, however, they must figure out a strategy to get "Clyde" into jail, then secure his release along with “Joe’s,” for a period long enough to complete their robbery, and subsequently return them both inside to establish a solid alibi before they are freed to enjoy the proceeds of their crime. This is where Steven Soderbergh excels: crafting an action-adventure film that's well-written, featuring memorable characters, and possessing a reasonably quick storyline that makes the two-hour runtime pleasant. Tatum moves away from his typical physique, Driver finds amusement in (and without) prosthetics acquired during his military service, and Craig dominates with what is arguably his most captivating role yet. The film seems to draw influence from "11 Harrowhouse" (1974), alongside hints of "Robin Hood" and "the Dukes of Hazard," resulting in a generally cheerful experience for everyone involved.
