We ended up seeing this film somewhat randomly last night. We don't usually subscribe to Canal+, but they’re offering free access for a limited time, and this movie seemed appealing, at least when compared with the other options available that evening, so we decided to watch it. It turned out to be a surprisingly enjoyable choice for an evening film. It’s essentially a typical Hollywood action movie meant for lighthearted viewing, but it's executed well. The filmmakers aren't trying to present it as anything more than what it is. The plot follows a familiar action storyline: the protagonist is wrongly accused early on. Then there’s a quick shift to a space prison, which serves as the backdrop for most of the film. A character who believes he's smarter than everyone else disregards the rules and things go wrong. Prisoners escape. Conveniently, the President’s daughter is also present. Our hero then gets tasked with rescuing her. Cue the action! There are a few additional plot twists, but that’s essentially the story. It's straightforward and functions adequately. The movie would have been fairly ordinary, possibly even unremarkable, if not for the lead actor, who does a commendable job portraying both a hero and a tough guy. Even though the dialogue is silly, it helps to elevate the film. The action sequences are decent, as are the special effects, although they aren’t what make the movie stand out. The main villain is an extremely frustrating, unstable character. The actor delivers a good performance, but I personally found the character quite annoying while watching. He definitely goes a bit too far over the top. Regardless, it was pretty entertaining as a casual evening film and, since we chose it almost by accident without knowing much about it beforehand, it proved to be a rather pleasant surprise.
