Experiencing a movie centered around a worldwide pandemic while simultaneously living through one can really affect how someone feels about it, depending on their personal circumstances. To be honest, I wasn’t anticipating much from Locked Down, but it turned out to be one of the most delightful discoveries I've made recently. Steven Knight’s script is witty and sharp, full of jokes poking fun at some of the strangest things people did during stay-at-home orders. The film touches on everything from excessive toilet paper purchases to petty arguments that erupt within families, and Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor really make the story shine with their very funny portrayals. They have great chemistry together, and their characters are amusing as well. Doug Liman directed a two-hour movie that’s easy to watch, harmless, and fairly believable—at least until the completely outlandish final act begins. The film generally adheres to a familiar structure loaded with predictable elements, but then it veers into a wild heist plot that feels disconnected from what came before, aside from bringing up numerous problems with logic. I would suggest this to anyone looking for something undemanding to watch on television when they have some free time; however, if you’re truly hoping to put the present global crisis behind you, perhaps it's best to wait and view it later.
