The film “Frank” (Sylvester Stallone) depicts a prisoner with only six months remaining on his sentence, who then falls under the supervision of warden “Dromgoole” (Donald Sutherland), someone who clearly dislikes him. As the story unfolds, the reasons for this animosity become apparent, as Dromgoole systematically subjects "Frank" to mistreatment, assaults, taunts, and constant challenges. The central question is whether this resilient inmate can withstand the urge to retaliate against his tormentor, and if he can reveal just how manipulative and harsh this man truly is to those in power. It's a prison drama that moves along at a good clip and contains some action sequences, with Sutherland delivering a notably menacing performance. The film also has a solid supporting cast; Sonny Landham ("Chink"), Tom Sizemore ("Dallas") and Larry Romano (“First Base”) all provide strong performances as the warden targets those around "Frank" to drive him closer to his breaking point. However, there isn't a great sense of danger, because the plot follows a predictable pattern. Stallone performs adequately but doesn’t go above and beyond with the unremarkable dialogue that feels somewhat flat. The visuals are sometimes effective, though familiar. Stallone invested so much of himself in creating the "Rocky" character; regrettably, he seems to have little left to contribute here, and I ultimately found it rather uninspired.
