Little Monsters offers a fresh perspective on the zombie genre, which has become quite common in Hollywood lately. I’m honestly surprised that a movie centered around zombies endangering children can be so funny and heartwarming, but it manages to achieve this with remarkable ease. Lupita Nyong'o gives a wonderful performance as a kindergarten teacher; she bears a striking resemblance to my own fiancé while interacting with the kids, making her portrayal very convincing. Alexander England also does well, creating a believable dynamic with his on-screen nephew (Diesel La Torraca) and Nyong’o. Their chemistry is apparent and strengthens as the film progresses. Josh Gad's role is pretty much what you'd anticipate – exaggerated and somewhat irritating. I felt that his character detracted from several scenes, though it didn’t significantly diminish my enjoyment of the movie; a little less intensity would have been preferable. The humor draws comparisons to Kindergarten Cop, with some jokes landing perfectly while others fall flat. I particularly liked how they incorporated songs and methods for managing the children throughout the film. It added a layer of dark comedy against the backdrop of zombies attempting to eat the students. The movie isn’t ambitious, but it succeeds in what it sets out to do. Verdict: _Good_
