This film tells a fairly straightforward story about the conflict between a mother and daughter alongside an encounter with a serial killer. A teenage girl, Staci Keanan, begins a clandestine connection with a respected restaurant owner in Hollywood, DW Moffett. However, he may also be the infamous Candlelight Killer, placing both her and her mother, Cheryl Ladd, at risk. "Lisa," released in 1990, combines elements of a coming-of-age story with a PG-13 slasher film. Director and writer Gary Sherman demonstrates an ability to create suspenseful horror, as seen in his earlier work "Dead & Buried" (1981). I watched Brian De Palma’s “Dressed to Kill” (1980) the previous evening, which felt very artistic and well-crafted with unexpected twists. Compared to that film, this one seems rather formulaic; a feeling likely influenced by the limited funds available for production. Despite that, "Lisa" is an acceptable movie where the mother and daughter characters are developed effectively, making you invested in their safety and what will happen to them. Staci Keanan was just 14 years old during filming while Cheryl Ladd was 38. If you enjoy either actress’s work, this film is probably worth watching, even if it isn't a masterpiece. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 35 minutes and the scenes were filmed in Hollywood locations like an apartment, flower shop and school, along with Muse restaurant on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles.
