Lisa Frankenstein is my first letdown of the year. The young actors really throw themselves into their over-the-top characters, delivering intentionally heightened feelings and gestures for an enjoyable, undemanding time with the expected amount of gore and darkness. Unfortunately, the script doesn’t seem to share that same enthusiasm, which leads to problems in how the movie feels and what it's trying to say. The story turns out to be less inventive than I hoped, and the resulting confusion about the film’s purpose leaves a somewhat unpleasant feeling. Rating: C
