The story unfolds within the exclusive circles of New York’s drug scene, where “LeTour” operates as a high-class dealer for “Ann” (Susan Sarandon) and her associate “Robert” (David Clennon), catering to the desires of the wealthy elite. Maintaining secrecy is vital to his livelihood, allowing him to earn a living by fulfilling their requests—though it leaves little room for his own personal life. Things become complicated when “Ann” suggests she might want to transition entirely to her cosmetics business, leaving the drug trade behind. "LeTour" senses something isn't right when he realizes that "Robert" is involved in this plan, but he isn’t! He considers a change and turns to "Teresa" (Mary Beth Hurt), described as a sort of spiritual advisor, which unexpectedly leads to an encounter with his former girlfriend “Marianne” (Dana Delany). She's happy to see him, and he would happily restart their relationship, but she has moved past drug use and he was her supplier. Her mind connects her history with him, and she doesn’t want to go back there! With several uncertainties hanging in the balance, "LeTour" must seriously contemplate his next steps. I felt Sarandon wasn't present enough, which is disappointing because when she shares a scene with a strong performance from Dafoe, the film really shines. She portrays a woman operating in a male-dominated environment; deceptive, clever and relentless—and his character effectively illustrates her greed and ambition. Dafoe handles that role well, displaying a rapid way of speaking that feels authentic as he moves through a world of those being exploited and manipulated. There are moments of humor, too, and the developing romantic tension complements the suspense that emerges in the latter portion of the film. It’s not an exceptional movie, but I found it engaging and would recommend it to anyone curious about what might have become of "Crockett" and "Tubbs".
