It feels wrong to completely dismiss this movie, since there will surely be viewers who appreciate its focus on the value of life. However, as a film, it's an incredibly basic and biased effort that tries to convince young women dealing with tough choices that everything is wonderful! The story begins with “David” (played adequately by Raphael Ruggero), who we learn was adopted by the Christian Colton family—"Jimmy" (Kirk Cameron) and "Susan" (Rebecca Rogers). They enjoy a pleasant existence, and David is a dedicated wrestler preparing for college. Unfortunately, he suffers an injury, requiring surgery to alleviate pressure on his brain – a recovery that would seem miraculous even compared to Lazarus’s resurrection – forcing him to reconsider his future. Simultaneously, his birth mother realizes he's eighteen and tries to make contact. The remainder of this rather sentimental and cheesy drama unfolds in what I found to be an almost sickening way, not helped by his annoying friend “Nate” (Justin Sterner), who constantly filmed everything on his phone—even some of the most private and emotional scenes. As the story progresses, there's a noticeable amount of preachy lecturing, which isn’t subtle at all; it hits you like an air raid siren. The acting, particularly from the adult cast, is overly sweet and unremarkable, with excessive praise and sycophancy as we move toward an ending that I found incredibly patronizing. At its best, this is a passable television movie that should only be screened in theaters with a disclaimer stating it completely lacks any perspective. The music is also forgettable—simple piano chords just to amplify the sentimentality. I didn’t dislike it; Cameron and his collaborators are free to express their beliefs, but if this is intended to be informative or realistic, then I'm very small!
