This film was a pleasure to experience. Occasionally, there’s a sense that it aims for breadth beyond its grasp, yet ultimately manages to convey considerable substance. My impression is that the movie isn’t quite as poor or as exceptional as some of the opinions I encountered prior to viewing. A drawback for me lies in the ambitious scope of the narrative and the weighty subjects it addresses through a complicated storyline; however, simultaneously, this ambition proves to be one of its assets. Essentially, when successful, it truly shines. The story features numerous characters who elicit empathy, and even those who are less immediately likable receive development and chances for change throughout the film’s duration. The decisions regarding subtitling the Spanish dialogue appear deliberate, but I didn't feel that anything essential was lost as a result. I suspect I’ll revisit it at some point to explore its layers more fully and notice details I likely overlooked, so I suppose that constitutes a recommendation.
